2004 Maserati 4200 Coupe GT - Manual on Collectingcars auction

Recently, I came across a very interesting auction platform featuring cars from all over the world. It’s new to me, but the selection is surprisingly good. Since this is my space, I’ll allow myself to comment on some of the auctions that really stand out.

One listing immediately caught my attention: a Maserati 4200, currently sitting at an extremely low price — around €5,100 at the time of writing.

From an investment perspective, this car makes a lot of sense. First of all, it’s a Maserati — the brand alone carries long-term value. Secondly, it’s powered by a naturally aspirated V8, something that’s becoming increasingly rare and desirable.

But the most important factor here is the manual gearbox. This is crucial. The automatic transmission offered in this model was, to put it bluntly, not very good — slow, clunky, and far less engaging. As a result, manual versions are far more sought-after and will always command a premium.

At the current price, the car is seriously undervalued. In my view, the maximum sensible buy-in for investment purposes would be around €15,000–€17,000. Beyond that, the upside becomes less attractive.

Looking ahead, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this model reach €22,000–€25,000 within the next two years, assuming it’s kept in good condition and the market continues to value analogue V8 cars the way it has recently.

This is exactly the kind of listing that reminds me why browsing auctions is still exciting — sometimes, real opportunities are hiding in plain sight.
