I've been thinking about Gordon Murray lately.
The man created one of the greatest cars in history — the McLaren F1. A true legend, and probably a car that will never really be replaced.
That's why I'm slightly torn about what he's doing now.
I understand that even the greatest ideas can be improved. The T.50 is an incredible machine, but to me it's still heavily inspired by the F1 philosophy. And now, with the S1, I feel we're going even further in the same direction.
For me, the McLaren F1 is a one-off. There should only ever be one.

And honestly, I would have ended that story with the McLaren P1. Not because the P1 is a direct successor to the F1 — it isn't — but because, for me, it feels like the perfect way to close that chapter.
What I'd really love to see from Gordon Murray now is something completely different.
No central driving position.
No three seats.
No V12 just because the F1 had one.
No looking back.

Because Murray has already proved he can do the F1 thing better than almost anyone.
I want to see what he can do when he forgets about the F1 completely.
Because the man's greatest talent isn't building another F1.
It's thinking differently.
So Gordon, give us something that makes us say:
“What the fuck is that?”
That would be the Gordon Murray I want to see again.
