Audi has finally revealed the production A2 e-tron, and the most interesting number is not its maximum power. It is 12.8 kWh per 100 km. Audi says that figure makes the new compact EV the most energy-efficient series-production car in the company’s history.
The A2 e-tron opened for orders in Germany on 10 September 2026, with first deliveries planned for December. Prices begin at €38,200, positioning it as Audi’s new entry point into electric mobility and giving the brand a smaller, more European-focused alternative to the larger Q6 e-tron and A6 e-tron.
Efficiency is the headline
The range is deliberately broad. Audi offers four power levels from 125 kW to 240 kW and three gross battery capacities: 52, 61 and 84 kWh. The 140 kW version with the optional efficiency package is rated at 12.8 kWh/100 km WLTP, while the longest-range configuration can reach up to 646 km.
A drag coefficient of 0.24 helps explain the numbers. Audi has used a largely closed underbody, controlled cooling-air intake, aerodynamic wheels and small body details designed to reduce turbulence around the wheel arches. None of that is glamorous in isolation, but together it represents a useful shift in EV thinking: more range achieved through lower consumption rather than simply a larger battery.
The price may be as important as the range
The 52 kWh model starts at €38,200 in Germany. A 61 kWh version begins at €41,900, while the 170 kW car with the 84 kWh battery is listed from €48,900. The 240 kW flagship costs €51,200.
Those numbers put the A2 e-tron into a part of the market where premium branding has to be justified by more than acceleration. Audi is betting on compact dimensions, low running consumption, a strong technology package and the usability of a hatchback-style body rather than SUV bulk.
It can also feed energy back out
Vehicle-to-Load is available for powering external devices, while Vehicle-to-Home functionality is planned for Germany, Austria and Switzerland with compatible DC wall boxes. That turns the battery into more than stored driving range: in the right installation, the car can become part of a household energy system.
Inside, Audi fits an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and a 12.8-inch central touchscreen as standard. The car also introduces the Fidlock magnetic mounting system in the premium segment for removable items such as cupholders and charging-cable storage.
The original A2 idea has come back at the right time
The old aluminium-bodied A2 was famous for taking efficiency seriously before the market necessarily rewarded it. The new car does not copy the original mechanically, but the philosophy is recognizable: use less energy, occupy less road space and solve everyday mobility intelligently.
That may be more important for Audi than another halo EV. The A2 e-tron is designed for the part of Europe where people actually need an electric car to be compact, efficient and financially reachable. If the real-world consumption lands anywhere near the official figures, this could be one of Audi’s most strategically important launches of the decade.
