BMW Z3 M Coupé: Weird Was Exactly the Right Decision

BMW Z3 M Coupe

The BMW Z3 M Coupé looked strange when it was new, and that was probably the best thing that could have happened to it.

Cars that are too easy to understand when new often become forgettable later. The M Coupé was the opposite: compact, impractical, muscular and visually unlike anything else in the BMW range.

Underneath, it has the ingredients enthusiasts want: rear-wheel drive, straight-six power, manual gearbox and relatively simple electronics.

My view: originality matters more every year. I would rather have a clean, standard car with history than a modified example with a more impressive specification sheet. The shape was once the problem; today it is the reason to own one.
